Экономика США замедлится до 1,5% из-за политики Трампа
The growth of the US economy in 2025 may slow down to 1.5% due to the economic policy of the newly elected President Donald Trump, according to experts interviewed by Izvestia.
The indicator may be the lowest since the coronavirus pandemic in 2020 - then the US economy shrank by 2.2%.
Even before the inauguration ceremony, Trump said he intends to raise tariffs from 10 to 20% on goods from the EU, as well as Canada and Mexico, and up to 60% on goods from China.
According to Vladimir Yeremkin, a researcher at the IPEI Structural Research Laboratory of the Presidential Academy, the US economy is built on large-scale international cooperative ties at the level of private companies. And raising duties could worsen this interaction.
This year, Donald Trump has also publicly stated that he intends to annex Canada, Greenland and establish control over the Panama Canal to the United States.
Washington wants to create its raw materials base and isolate its market from China. Because of the annexation of Greenland, the country will strengthen its control over northern sea routes and change trade flows, emphasized Venera Shaidullina, associate professor of the Department of Global Financial Markets and Fintech at the Plekhanov Russian Economic University.
If the expansion happens, the US economy will grow in the short term due to capital flows, but the situation is unpredictable, said Denis Paleyev, a researcher at the Center for Strategic Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Such decisions may increase geopolitical tensions.
