A dirt rampart was completed around the tanker Volgoneft-239 off Cape Panagia
Around the wrecked tanker "Volgoneft-239", which ran aground near Cape Panagia in the Temryuksky district of the Krasnodar Territory, a hydraulic structure in the form of a ground berm was completed, which will contain the leakage of fuel oil. This was reported by the head of the region Veniamin Kondratyev on January 17.
"We have just finished erecting a technical structure around the tanker "Volgoneft-239" in the Temryuksky district near Cape Panagia. The work was carried out around the clock, the situation was complicated by wind and high waves," the governor wrote in his Telegram-channel.
He recalled that the construction of this structure was carried out under the control of the operative staff of the Krasnodar region. After the construction of the berm is completed, it will begin to strengthen it, and then will maintain the stability of the structure during the liquidation works.
There is a road on the rampart around the tanker, which gives specialists access to the vessel, and at the same time securely encloses "Volgoneft-239", not letting the leaked fuel oil into the sea, so the fuel can begin to be pumped out.
Earlier in the day the Morspass Service started the first stage of pumping out the leaked fuel oil near Cape Panagia. The tanker has restored the equipment, which was broken in the accident, and now the units will allow heating the oil product. When its temperature reaches 45 degrees Celsius, the fuel will be pumped into bitumen trucks.
The tankers Volgoneft-212 andVolgoneft-239crashed in the Kerch Strait on December 15 last year due to bad weather. 27 people were evacuated from both vessels, one person died. As a result of the incident , there was a spill of oil products. On the instructions of Russian President Vladimir Putin, a working group was set up to coordinate work to eliminate the consequences of the emergency.
Later, on January 2, 2025, the Russian Ministry of Transport reported that 2.4 thousand tons of oil products fell into the Black Sea. The next day the oil slick was found at the entrance to Balaklava Bay off the coast of Sevastopol. After the city declared a state of emergency of regional character, in addition, fuel oil moved northward along the coast of Crimea.
In the Black Sea region of Crimea on January 11 because of the found fuel oil stains introduced a state of emergency of a municipal nature.
"Izvestia" on January 15 showed how the specialists of the Ministry of Emergency Situations laid a protective rampart around "Volgoneft-239". The head of the ministry Alexander Kurenkov ordered to create an access technical road to the stern of the vessel, and it was built within a day.
