The Kremlin denied the invitation of U.S. representatives to the celebration of the 80th anniversary of the victory
Russia has not sent invitations to anyone from the United States to celebrate the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said on January 16.
"No invitations have been sent to anyone from the United States," he told RIA Novosti in response to a related question.
At the same time, anyone who wants to pay tribute to the great day will be welcome in Moscow, the Russian presidential spokesman added.
Earlier in the day, Newsweek magazine wrote that a certain "big guest" from the United States may attend the parade on Red Square in Moscow on May 9, 2025. According to its sources, Russia is allegedly expecting the arrival of a certain high-ranking American guest at the parade, but it is not yet known who it will be.
Russian President Vladimir Putin in late December 2024 called to promote the victory over Nazism in 2025 as a common value for all mankind. At the same time, the head of state said that on May 9, 2025, he is waiting for the leaders of the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) countries in Moscow.
Before that it was announced that representatives of the countries of the anti-Hitler coalition would receive invitations. In addition, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fitzo confirmed their readiness to come.
