Russian President Vladimir Putin and Iranian leader Massoud Pezeshkian began talks in the Kremlin on Friday, January 17.
Pezeshkian arrived in the Kremlin with an Iranian delegation. According to Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov, the talks will first take place in an expanded format, after which the heads of state will be able to talk one-on-one.
The Iranian president arrived in Russia on an official visit earlier in the day. On the same day, he laid a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in Alexander Garden in Moscow.
On the eve, the Kremlin press service reported that Putin and his Iranian counterpart will sign the Treaty on Strategic Partnership between Russia and Iran, which reflects the entry of bilateral relations to a new level. In addition, the treaty fixes a legal framework for further development of Russian-Iranian ties in all areas for the long-term perspective.
